Preincarnation Appearance: http://safebooru.org/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=967426
Any differences: well her outfits aren't as frilly and she wears a lot of bracelets rather than detached sleeves, but she still tends to wear red and white clothes and her shirts and dresses are almost always sleeveless (except in winter of course). She also still wears the hair bow and hair tubes though the tubes don't have white lace on them. Also she doesn't wear her hair as long as in the picture, it's short like in the non-fighting games. She also wears a traditional miko uniform when working her part time job at the shrine, in contrast to her preincarnation self who used to wear that all the time back when she was younger/in the classic games until she started wearing the outfit in the image instead starting in the sixth game. This uniform has detached sleeves like her preincarnation outfit.
Preincarnated History: http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Touhou_Wiki
http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Reimu_Hakurei

Like Marisa, Reimu was born at some point in the modern era some time in the 1990s in the pocket dimension of Gensoukyo. She was the latest in a long line of Shrine Maidens of the Hakurei family, who aided the Gap Youkai Yukari Yakumo in creating Gensoukyo to be a safe haven for magical creatures in Japan when the increasingly modern outside world stopped being hospitable to them. The Hakurei family were charged with maintaining the border that separated Gensokyo from the outside world, and with maintaining the balance between the human and youkai residents living there. This was a task they'd been preforming diligently for several generations already before Reimu's birth.

There is very little other than that which is known about Reimu's past, other than the fact that her parents apparently died or were killed at some point, seeing as she's the only living member of the Hakurei at the point in time the games take place. The first time Reimu solved an incident was when, after some unknown person wrecked her Shrine, she took up the Hakurei Yin Yang Orbs for the first time and went into the Spirit World (or Makai depending on player choice) to find and defeat the person responsible. At this point she could barely control them properly, but she still managed to be victorious in the end, meeting the “evil” spirit Mima for the first time (alternately she could meet Shinki in Makai, but Mima's more important in the classic games to Reimu in particular, at least as Antagonists go).

After one of her rare moments of actually doing some training, she became strong enough and adept enough at using the orbs to engage in magical flying duels with the help of her turtle familiar Geniji and has been carrying out her duties somewhat reluctantly ever since. Over the course of her career she would fight a lot of different humans, youkai and other creatures who she would end up befriending as a result, the most prominent of these being Marisa Kirisame, a loud self styled witch who was Mima's apprentice, and who would go on to aid her in resolving every Incident from then on, constantly spending lazy afternoons with her at the shrine in between each.

Eventually she would go through another rare period of training where she would learn to fly under her own power, and some not very well described incident during that time would lead her to devising a non-lethal magical dueling system called the Spell Card system. This system was more for the benefit of Youkai than for her own, as she'd gotten so powerful that youkai were beginning to feel as if they needed to use their full power to beat her but were afraid of doing so in case they might accidentally kill her (which would be bad since the Hakurei Barrier's, and thus Gensokyo's, very existence is tied to her bloodline which as mentioned she's the only living member of such), so she wanted to make things more fair.

It has been more or less decided by me and Marisa's mun that Reimu and Marisa worked together to solve most of the incidents in the games and this team up may or may not have also included other playable characters the series has had over the years such as Sakuya, Youmu and Sanae in the games they're playable in. Whether they helped out in those games or not would depend on whether we ever get any of these characters in the game and their muns decisions in this regard. Otherwise it's assumed it's just Reimu and Marisa.

Reincarnated History: Reimu was born in Kyoto to a mostly traditional, middle class, purely Japanese family, to a priestess of a local shrine and a business man. Her mother died when she was still very young and her father was rather distant and too busy with his job to take care of her, so Reimu was mainly raised by her grandmother, who was also a priestess at the shrine.

Her life was actually fairly normal and boring other than training under her grandmother as a shrine maiden after school each day. Still she always felt a bit out of place among the other kids her age, partly because her seemingly effortless ability to get good grades in school and excel at sports despite being obviously very lazy made people either idolize her or become jealous of her and her some what odd personality made her a bit hard to approach at times, but she still managed to have some friends, even if she never really felt that close to any of them. The only other real problem she had growing up was the aforementioned father who she mostly regarded with annoyance because when he actually did pay attention to her it was mostly just so he could criticize her laziness and try to push her to do better in school so that she could get into a good college and become a “successful adult” like himself. Nevermind her grades were already better than everyone else's despite the fact that she never studied, the fact that this was the case just seem to make him even more frustrated with her. In Reimu's opinion, he had no right to push her around when he was hardly ever there for her otherwise, so she just ignored him.

A couple of months before she entered the rp she was entered, more or less against her will by her father, into a foreign exchange program that would take her over seas to Locke City High School in America. Her mother's cousin, who owned the Shinto Shrine in Locke City's Japan Town, offered to take the girl in during her stay over seas, so she was shipped off to live with them.

First Echo: When Reimu first arrived in Locke City and entered her relatives' Shinto Shrine in Japan Town she felt a very strong feeling of deja vu because the shrine bares a striking resemblance to the Hakurei Shrine in Gensokyo. Basically she immediately knew the interior and felt as if the place was where she'd been living all her life. She also found a Gohei (aka her prayer stick, aka the thing she's holding in that image above) that she immediately felt was supposed to be hers. This is the one she uses when she's working at the shrine. (Yes, I know this is basically copy paste of Marisa's first echo, but shoosh it made sense to me.)

Preincarnation Personality: Truthfully Reimu's personality is a bit inconsistent and sometimes a bit hard to pin down in canon. It's said she's a simple straight forward and optimistic person who treats everyone the same whether they're human or youkai, but in partice this doesn't always seem to be true and even then she's not always particularly nice, especially during incidents where she's a whole lot more aggressive than normal. One thing that is pretty consistant though is that she's very lazy and dislikes training normally, but she's very naturally talented at everything and thus usually doesn't need to train anyway.

While it's said she treats everyone the same regardless of who they are, she often seems to see Youkai hanging around her shrine as a nuisance, though this doesn't stop her from considering many youkai her friends. This might have something to do with the fact that, among other things, humans rarely visit her shrine due to the many youkai who like to visit and so she doesn't have many followers as a result, leading to her shrine being rather poor due to lack of donations despite how important the place is. This is understandably vexing for her.

Reimu is so lazy and so seemingly disinterested in doing her job most of the time that she often refuses to get involved until the last possible moment, usually when it starts to personally inconvenience her, with the exceptions generally being when someone messes up the shrine. When she actually does get involved, she becomes rather aggressive, confrontational and trigger happy. Still this just seems to be the way she is during incidents rather how she is all the time, as once the incident is resolved and one responsible has been defeated, she always invites the culprit back to the shrine for tea so they can explain themselves and most of the former bosses of the games ended up becoming friends of hers. Outside of incidents, when she's just relaxing about the shrine, she's actually relatively friendly, if still a bit grumpy and snarky towards people who bother her too much. This is especially true towards her most frequent and often disruptive visitors; Yukari (trolling gap hag who is lazier than she is and treats her like a minion), Suika (freeloader oni who likes to drink all her sake and rarely does anything useful when she decides to crash at the shrine) and Marisa (there is nothing more to say here, it's Marisa). Still, at least one person who would know these things has said that Reimu is ultimately a pure-hearted person who is incapable of actually hating anyone, and this is true no matter how grumpy and aggressive she might act towards whoever she's dealing with.

It's also said that despite the number of friends she has, her “treating everyone equally regardless of who or what they are” extends to the point while as mentioned she doesn't hate anyone, she also doesn't regard anyone as “special” either and actually keeps everyone at a certain distance. This may be partly because since the Hakurei Shrine Maiden's job is to maintain balance between the humans and youkai in Gensoukyo, she can't really afford to “take sides” with one or the other.

Any differences: Well the biggest difference right off the bat is that she doesn't have the pressures and responsibilities that come with being the Hakurei Shrine Maiden to deal with in this life. She's just a normal, modern day Shrine Maiden and school girl instead and that does make things somewhat different. Instead her problems mostly stem from her somewhat unfortunate relationship with her father. His distance from her, his inability to understand her due to not spending any time with her and his insistence on pushing her towards what he thinks would be best for her despite that.

Though admittedly, she doesn't seem to let this bother her much, not in the way some other people in the same situation would. Rather than seek her father's approval, she basically reacts to his demands in a somewhat similar fashion to how she reacts to her shrine maiden duties in canon except for the part where she eventually gets off her ass and does it anyway because screw you dad I don't wanna be a business woman or a lawyer or whatever. Because really, like mentioned before, what right does he have to tell her what to do when he's hardly around otherwise. Really she'd be fine just inheriting the family shrine from her grandmother and running that as her future job, with maybe some small side job to supplement that since Shinto Shrines probably don't make that much money on their own anyway nowadays.

Also she's still about as naturally talented as in canon though that talent was channeled into good grades and being good at sports. This plus the problems with her dad and the fact that her mother's death probably affected her more than she let on means she's still kinda distant from people despite still making friends relatively easily, though this reason is a bit less of an obstacle than the previous one. The whole “treats everyone the same no matter who they are” thing is a bit less pronounced too. She still doesn't really seem to care about things like social class and ethnicity or any other factors that most people care about though.

The lack of Hakurei Shrine Maiden duties also means she's less aggressive and trigger happy than her previous life. There was no need to develop Incident Mode and it's “shoot first ask questions later over tea” tendencies. Though she does still get a little more aggressive than normal when participating in things she actually cares enough about to be competitive about, such as video games.

Oh yeah, by the way, she's definitely into video games quite a bit. She's no Otaku, but her equivalent of lazing about the shrine all day instead of doing anything resembling training is hanging out in the Arcade all afternoon after school and on Sundays or playing video games in her room rather than studying.

Also she's probably more aware of sex and romance than her pre-incarnated self (who never really had much reason to care about such things) if only because how modern society tends to be on the subject, even in Japan (especially in Japan in some areas). She still isn't really all that interested in dating though.

Also, growing up in the real world instead of in a place like Gensokyo, where logic and common sense often did not apply and magic was everywhere you look, means that she's a bit more grounded in reality than her pre-incarnated self. She still believes in the supernatural due to her Shrine Maiden up bringing, so she isn't a total skeptic, but she does actually find weird things weird.

Abilities:
The ability to control the Hakurei Yin Yang Orbs, the Hakurei family's ancestral weapon, which are launch-able weapons often used in her spell cards as well as mobile turrets that fire various types of bullets at enemies. They also have a variety of mundane and mostly useless utilities, such as the ability to allow her to eat as much as she wants without getting fat.
Divine power of the Hakurei shrine maidens that allows her to craft ofuda, spirit needles and amulets that can be used to exorcise or seal spirits, youkai and other magical creatures. This also includes the ability to create defensive barriers and the like among other useful abilities.
The ability to fly under her own power, which unlike most other characters in Touhou goes beyond mere flight into the ability to “fly away from reality,” making her completely intangible and impossible to be damage by any method for a limited time. She only ever uses it to this extreme in her Last Word (aka Ultimate Technique), Fantasy Heaven.
Danmaku: Basically means Curtain Fire and is the form that everyone's attack magic takes in Gensokyo. Touhou is primarily a series of Bullet Hell Shooter games after all.
Spell Cards: Named Techniques that for Reimu mostly involve the Yin Yang Orbs and her other above mentioned tools. A list of all her spell cards can be found on her character page on the wiki in the spell cards section (apparently Dreamwidth doesn't like that link).
Dodging ability. You have to be really good at dodging when you engage in a spell card duel. Reimu's got the smallest hitbox out of all the playables, so this would translate to having the fastest reflexes out of everyone.

Roleplay Sample - Third Person:

Reimu yawned and stretched her arms above her head as she made her way down the road towards school. Jeez, why did school have to start so early? She never felt like getting up in the mornings. Ah, well. It was Saturday, so they only had half day and then tomorrow was Sunday and then she could sleep in. She could handle that.

"Reimu-chan!" A girl ran up to her, waving as she carried her book bag, and Reimu smiled slightly at her classmate as she caught up. "Good morning, Reimu-chan."

"Good morning." Reimu replied politely. This girl had been in the same classes as her since middle school and she was fairly easy to get on with. They often went to the arcade after school together when the other girl didn't have a club meeting to attend.

"Say, I didn't get a chance to ask yesterday because Drama Club ended later than usual, but how did you do on your test?" The girl asked as she fell into step beside Reimu.

The young shrine maiden thought for a moment, then shrugged. "I got a 100. I wasn't sure about question 9, but I guess I must've got it right after all."

"Wow, seriously?" The other girl asked in disbelief. "How do you do that? With all that time you spend at the arcade and your shrine maiden training I wouldn't think you'd have the time."

Reimu just stared at her. She never really got why people made a big deal about it. School was annoying sometimes, especially when her dad started getting on her case about it, but it wasn't that hard, or at least it wasn't for her. "The questions weren't that hard."

"Seriously, you must be some kind of genius or something." The girl muttered half to herself, which just made Reimu roll her eyes. "Anyway, we should probably hurry, or we'll be late for homeroom. C'mon Reimu-chan!"

The girl went into a brisk job, waving for Reimu to follow. "Right." She replied, picking up her pace as well. It looked like it was going to be the start of another normal boring day, but she supposed that wasn't a bad thing.

Roleplay Sample - Network:

[Reimu is kind of in a bad mood right now. She didn't even really want to be in this country, not that there was anything she could do about it at present. It was still incredibly bothersome to deal with a new school in country she'd never been to before and having to talk to everyone in English instead of Japanese all the time, even if she was one of the few people she knew in her age group who was perfectly fluent in it. Now on top of that there was that weird sense of deja vu she'd gotten not too long after arriving and those weird numbers popping into her head that she couldn't stop thinking about. She'd ended up typing them into her ipad and now she found herself looking at some kind of weird forum. It was just one thing after another it seemed like.

So here Numbers Club, have a grumpy Miko complaining at you.]

[Text]

Alright. Not entirely sure what the hell this is about, but since those numbers came out of nowhere I kind of doubt this is some kind of prank or something (unless someone found out how to beam things into people's heads or whatever and decided to use it for something that frivolous).

Looking at the most recent posts though, does make me feel like I fell into one of those dumb movies my friends were always dragging me to back home. People developing strange powers and turning into weird things and having memories about their past lives or something like that, and something about some kind of conspiracy? And here I thought the worst thing I'd have to deal with was speaking in English to everyone for a year. I guess that's what I get for jinxing myself. What a pain.

Ah well, whatever. I guess I'd better introduce myself. You can call me Reimu, I guess. It's not like you foreigners care about familiarity or anything and I probably shouldn't be giving my full name out on the internet anyway.

Any Questions? Nothing I can think of.
